The Cuba the world sees on the news and in movies is a romantic and visually stunning look at life on a Caribbean island trapped in the nostalgia of the 1950’s. The Cuba of classic cars and cigars stands in stark contrast to the harsh realities of life on that island and glosses over the true poverty and desperation of the people. The exodus of burned out senior church leaders and young people continues, including two of the pastors that have meant so much to our work there. However, standing strong in the midst of these challenges there remains an amazing group of faithful and devoted messengers of the Gospel who need our love and support.
I will be joining with a group of our Cuba for Christ pastors and their families in Havana the last week in November for three days of prayer and fellowship and a celebration of all that God has done through their churches in 2023. We will also be commissioning new pastors and the word the Lord has given me to share with them is, “God sees you, and you are not alone.” These words only have meaning because of the Great Commission heart and generous support of our FirstChurch family. Thank you for your abundant love for the Gospel in Cuba.
I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. (Romans 1:8)
